Pau d’Arco is the inner bark of a majestic flowering Amazonian tree called the Taheebo tree. The Pau d’Arco tree does not rot, even when it is dead in the wettest environments, due to the intrinsic chemical factors that fight fungus and mold. This is why the indigenous people started using the bark to medicinally fight fungal conditions hundreds of years ago.

Pau d’Arco is a great tea to drink to help prevent colds and flu and other bacterial and viral infections. It is also used as a remedy for smoker's cough as it is considered an expectorant: promoting coughing up by the lungs in order to free mucus and contaminants that have been lodged there. Pau d’Arco has been known to be beneficial for yeast infections by cleansing out Candida. The tea or tincture concoctions have reportedly had beneficial effects for cancer patients, anywhere from alleviation of chemotherapy symptoms to complete remission of tumors. Moreover, Pau d’Arco is confirmed as being an anti–parasitic agent used to fight against various parasites, in which many cases it has proven to be more beneficial than pharmaceutical drugs. The herb may also help treat blood toxicity conditions such as dermatitis and eczema and is used in home remedies for psoriasis. Pau d’Arco is a liver protector and may help neutralize poisons that infiltrate the liver. Other medicinal benefits of Pau d’Arco include reducing insulin dependence in diabetic patients, relieving arthritis pain, reducing the pain associated with cancer, and treating gastritis and peptic ulcers.

Pau d’Arco tea possesses a wonderful flavor and has a naturally sweet taste, yet it contains no sugar.

The environment is important to us, so we made sure that our Pau d’Arco has been ethically harvested (without killing the tree). Please also remember that the sale of this product supports indigenous peoples and helps protect cutting down of the rainforest for cattle farming.

Preparation and Dosage: Use 3 tablespoons of tea per quart (mason jar) of filtered water. After water starts to boil, reduce heat and “low Boil” for at least 20 minutes. You can also add raw cacao nibs or Cat’s Claw to make a traditional Shipibo Peruvian tea. Add a little natural sweetener of your choice such as stevia, coconut crystals, honey or yacon syrup. You can drink from 3-8 cups of this tea a day.

Side effects and Precautions: If taken in stronger doses you may feel some slight nausea. Simply reduce the strength or intake of the tea. Nausea and/or slight diarrhea can be a sign that the tea is working and is purging your body of unwanted wastes. These symptoms are only temporary and should disappear in a day or two. Men, women, and children of all ages, as well as by pregnant women can enjoy Pau d’Arco quite safely.
